Our customers can now purchase coffee direct from Costa Rica, shipped direct to your home, by Cafe Paradiso in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Our roasters make small batches of exceptional coffee.

It will arrive to your home fresher than anything you've purchased before.

It won't be overroasted like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and other supermarket brands.

It will be half the price of Starbucks with twice the flavor.

Our roasters' coffees are often often single origin from one country and/or micro-lot meaning it can be traced to a specific country, region and crop.

Coffee is as complex and interesting as wine.  It's also 1/10th the cost. And if you're like me, you drink 5-10x more coffee during a typical week than wine.

So it's time to appreciate coffee more!

Properly brewed, coffee has several distinct tastes, including:

Earthiness is a deep mossy coffee taste prevalent in coffee from Sumatra, sometimes Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.  It's interesting to note that Sumatran cigar wrappers are also known for their earthy flavor, so it may be the rich volcanic soil.

You can enjoy the largest collection anywhere of coffee micro-roasters on ROASTe.com.  And a lot of our micro-roasters are unique finds.  They're well worth trying.  They're worlds apart from the bitter swill served at places like Starbucks and McDonalds.  Here's a brief sample.

Like many of our customers, I probably drink 1 or 2 glasses of wine (or beer) a week but I drink 1-2 cups of coffee a day.  Yet what do I know more about?  Wine and beer! What about coffee, if I'm drinking 10 times more of it than wine and beer?

It's taken nearly 6 months of negotiations and back-and-forth, and Espresso Vivace's world-famous Espressos are now available at ROASTe.com

Espresso Vivace's owner David Schomer literally wrote the book on espresso.  Three books:  Espresso Coffee Professional Techniques, Caffe Latte Art, and Techniques of the Barista.

You've heard of low-caffeine coffee and low-acid coffee...now what about "diet coffee" that is low glycemic, or as they call it, "skinny coffee?"

Check out the video below.  It's from a new company named Boresha that says low-glycemic coffee will help you lose weight.  They claim it's "patented, low-glycemic thermogenic."

I'll try any kind of coffee anywhere (except that weird cevit-ingested coffee from Malaysia).

So I tried a supermarket coffee brand from the hispanic section.  Brand name Cafe Pilon.  Subbranded Cafe Molido.

This stuff is pure gasoline and I don't mean that in a good way.

Possibly its best claim is "100% Arabica Coffee."  And I would stick to that.  It can't claim smooth taste, a good aroma a nice origin or anything else indicating flavor.

If there was ever evidence that locally roasted coffee is making a comeback, it's this:

In Seattle, Starbucks has quietly removed its name from a cafe that it planned originally to close and instead called it 15th Avenue Coffee & Tea.

Why does espresso taste different in Italy than in the US?

Is it the scenic countryside, the renaissance artwork, the legacy of the Medicis.. um, no.

It's because Italians prefer a totally different taste in their espresso than do Americans.  And it shows up in the coffee, according to top roasters and travelers that I've spoken with.

We're glad to now carry coffee from Roast Magazine's Roaster of the Year for 2009, PT's Coffee Roasting Company!

    You have to try them.

PT's has won more awards than Michael Phelps, and across the board too in many categories and regions. 30 of its coffees have rated 90 or higher ("Outstanding") at CoffeeReview.com which is quite an accomplishment. Many are Cup of Excellence winners too.

After the country of origin and roast, what is the next most important characteristic of gourmet coffee?

Whether the coffee beans off the tree were dry processed or wet processed.

It impacts taste in a big way, and can make the difference between you liking a coffee or not.

Both are techniques used in preparing and drying the beans just after they're picked.

    So what are they exactly?

Do you have a favorite coffee?

Mine is coffee from Indonesia and the surrounding islands.

(Which isn't to say that I give preference to Indonesian coffee at ROASTe.com...like a parent, I love all my children)

We're carrying a lot of blends including Breakfast Blends which begs the question "What are Breakfast Blends anyway?"

If like me, you assume it's a higher caffeine coffee to help you wake up in the morning, then you're, well, wrong.

Breakfast Blends contain the same caffeine levels as other coffees.

Nothing makes the noses turn up of artisanal coffee roasters than the names of the large national private label coffee roasters.  It's companies like Royal Cup, Paramount Coffee, Dillano's, and Magnum Coffee, among others.

They're usually invisible to you and me because they're private label, behind the scenes.  They'll be at Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, your corner cafe, and your local high-end restaurant.  But they're not out making a name for themselves with the coffee drinker, like you and me.

The hottest new thing in coffee is...chocolate.

Here at the Fancy Food Show in New York, chocolatiers were as excited about ROASTe.com as are coffee roasters.

The reason is that chocolatiers are increasingly pairing their chocolates with coffees.

Hi from the Fancy Food Show in New York City!

Mixed in among the hundreds of vendors of charcuterie, smoothie drinks, chocolate, and every manner of food and beverage at America's largest food show were many coffee & tea suppliers.

And one trend is clear: here come the Italian espresso brands.
