My dad seems to have a cup of coffee that lasts all day. When the level goes down he "tops it off" and if it gets cold he warms it up via microwave. My coffee has never lasted that long but he seems happy with it. It tastes better doing that with better coffee but I still do not do that. I drink my coffee then just pour a new cup (or glass if it is iced coffee). Maybe it is just a midwest thing.

I love using my slow cooker. Over the weekend my dad had a craving for pulled pork. So early Sunday morning I put a five pound piece of pork loin into the slow cooker. To that I added two cups of very strong coffee and a 1/4 of barbeque sauce. The flavors together sound strange but really work together. I set it to cook for six hours. It turned out absolutely perfect. The pork separated very nicely and made an incredible sandwich. My dad prefers more barbeque sauce (he added a bit more on top) but said the flavor with the coffee was really good (better than he had expected).

    Easy to use

With Mother's Day coming up I am looking for something nice to get my Grandmother. She likes coffee but tends to go to instant. Her instant of choice is Taster's Choice. She does not like the Starbucks. Part of why she does instant is that it is "quick and easy". Now to me that is an excuse. I do not see how it could be that difficult to brew a pot of coffee (she has a baby drip). I was thinking of getting her something like this

We are having relatively nice weather. I was sitting out today and was reading. Suddenly I hear a lapping noise and see my dad reach for the camera. The dog was drinking my iced coffee. I stopped him (it is not good for dogs) but he followed me when I moved the cup out of his reach (I know - dogs are not supposed to drink coffee). He wanted to drink more! I gave him fresh water (which he promptly snubbed). I guess the dog has discriminating taste. ;p   For the record he was drinking my Guaremala Santa Isabel Single Estate Espresso that I was drinking as iced coffee.

I am a gambler at heart. I will buy something based on the name alone. I was looking over a couple of purchases that I have made on Roaste and so far (knock on wood) my impulse buys have been good. At least for me.  The names that come to mind for me were:

    Klatch Poizon Blend -Klatch Coffee

    White Done Wright Coffee-Avion Coffee

Guatemala Santa Isabel Single Estate Espresso - The West Bean

I remember a few weeks ago reading blogs about adding flavor and about coffee creamers. Yesterday I downloaded a book for my Kindle on DIY coffee creamer. I am not always a fan of creamers but this looked like fun so I tried making two of the thirty recipes listed.

I am a big fan of almond (I have used almond extract as perfume in the past) so tried the Almond recipe first.

    One teaspoon almond extract

3/4 cup of Half and Half

    1/2 cup of powdered sugar

I know we have discussed this before but time to bring it up again! I just finished reading the "Coffee House Mysteries" by Cleo Coyle. There are ten of them so far. They revolve around a woman who manages a coffee house in New York. She also tends to get involved in situations so ends up investigating things. The books describe the coffee house and different types of coffee and has recipes in the back. I like the website too. They give coffee tips and recipes.

An interesting article but I am not willing to give up coffee (or caffeine) right now for a potential end of world zombie attack. Those around me need me to drink it! :) Even when I am having a caffeine attack I can still function, plan and exist (even while being crabby). I am about to drink more right now.  Besides wouldn't survival chances be better for someone wanting to get into the abandoned coffee store (fighting any zombies in their way) because they have to get a caffeine fix?

Another successful coffee experiment for dinner tonight!  On a cooking competition show I watched on Sunday the contestants had to make pressed chicken. This looked intriguing to both myself and my father. So I decided to try it. Being me I had to experiment a little with it. It was a bit complicated but turned out really good.

My drip coffee maker stopped working. Waah! Since I do not have any other coffee makers (my french press broke) I was not sure what alternatives I had. I remembered reading articles about "camping" coffee so looked online and deciced to try it at home. All articles made a point of saying not to let the water boil but were split on whether or not to put the ground coffee in the pot while heating the water or wait until it was already warm. I chose to put the grounds in while heating.

    No filters!

I hate waking up feeling like I did not get any sleep. Time for coffee. What? No filters? How did that happen? OK let me bring out the gold filter basket. Where is it again? Shoot. How did I lose that?

Last year I experimented using coffee as hair coloring (it was subtle but my hair was soft and smelled nice) and as a body scrub. It made my skin very soft and made my
